2012 Holiday Party

The Rocky Mountain Cutups had their Holiday Party on December 8th. Fifteen members and friends gathered at Rosanne's home for lunch and cookies. We played games and ate cookies. Penny found the Christmas Pickle that was hidden in the tree. Nicki won the door prize of a cute cookie jar. Everyone brought a small cookie cutter gift for the gift exchange. We all had a good time.

MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY - Summer meeting 2012

The Rocky Mountain Cutups had a Summer meeting on August 18 in Lakewood, Colorado.  The theme of the meeting was “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party”.  Twenty-five members and guests enjoyed their pizza lunch while listening to the program by Colleen Estes Casswell, “The Hat Lady”.   She showed off many hats from her collection including one that had been worn by Denver’s First Lady, Mamie Dowd Eisenhower and several that were over 100 years old.  For dessert we ate cookies of course.  Penny’s cookies were shaped like top hats and morter-boards and Rosanne decorated Alice-in-Wonderland cookies.  Each member also wore her hat and told about it during show-and-tell.  We started off with a social hour and scramble before lunch.  During the business meeting we started making some long-term plans for the Denver CCCC convention in 2016.  Rosanne  had the craziest hat of a hand-crafted cloth tea cup and she also won the Door-prize of a lovely platter and crazy candelabra.  Elenna Firme made the cute hat cookie cutter.  We finished the meeting with our customary raffle.

Spring 2012 Meeting

Hostesses Donna, Penny and Cassandra welcomed 17 members and guests on April 14th to Cassandra Larsen’s house in Golden, CO for the RMCU Spring meeting.
The meeting started with old friends greeting each other.  We were happy to have two of our Kansas members join Colorado members.  We started with the scramble where we shared our extra cutters.  Lorella brought a selection of vintage aprons to sell.

Cassandra  did a program about miniature cookie cutters, sharing examples of many of the small cutters that have been made over the years.  The  table decorations included jars full of mini cutters and cards with tiny cutters taped to them.  She also had a large display of cutters and packages on hand. She then handed out the meeting cutter, a darling little elephant cutter pin made by Elenna Firme.
Following show and tell Mae Jane and June told us about the Big Rivers meeting they went to last fall where they got to see Gary Oldenberg’s collection.  They had photos to share from there.  Cassandra did a second program about her cast iron molds.  She has them on display in her office along with large jars full of cutters.

The hostesses made a lunch of several salads and rolls.  And of course everyone brought cookies to share.

Char and Joy brought their friend Patty who shared her macarons and her blog.  She did a lovely write up about our meeting.

During the business meeting we brainstormed ideas for our 2016 convention.  Joy, Char and Patty volunteered to host the fall (late summer) meeting.  Their theme will be “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” and the tentative date is August 18th.

Christmas, Cookies and Cocktails, December 2011

Sixteen members and friends of the Rocky Mountain Cut-ups met at June's house on December 10 for Cookies and Cocktails. Of course everyone brought cookies to share. We also each brought a cookie cutter gift to exchange. We played a game of CCCC trivia with prizes. Hostess June provided wine and lemonade. Penny's cookies were wonderful little snow globes. It was a great evening with friends.

RMCU Fall Meeting

CAN YOU SPELL COOKIES?

What fun we had at our Fall retreat in LaVeta with a beautiful of the Spanish Peaks. Six members enjoyed staying at the lovely house that Lorella and Nick are trying to sell there. Cassandra and Donna stayed at the local RV park with Grandpa and the kids. June drove down with our hosts a couple of days early to help them decorate. Penny and Arlene carpooled with Elenna and enjoyed the drive down the front range.
Penny made a cute banner illustrating all the letters of the alphabet with common household items.
Friday night Nick fired up the grill and we had a wonderful b-b-q with shared brats, steaks and burgers. Lorella and Arlene used her two bread machines to make hot loaves. The rest of the meal was a pot-luck of salads. We finally all retired to our beds after visiting late into the evening.
Saturday morning we enjoyed Penny's breakfast burritos and Elenna's cranberry bread along with sliced fruit.
Of course we had cookies available all day and evening. We started the meeting with our traditional scramble. Arlene gave her presentation, "Can You Spell Cookies" sharing cutters from her collection of alphabet and number cutters. After show and tell we adjourned to go to the downtown "Octoberfest" festival. We liked walking down Main street that had been converted to a street fair with booths and good food to buy for lunch. A favorite booth had homemade pies. After spending a couple of hours and more than a couple of dollars, we went back to the house to restart the meeting.
During the business meeting we decided on a design for our 2012 convention contribution. We decided to meet at June's house in December for a potluck and cookie exchange (to be finalized later but tentatively set for Friday evening, December 9th). Cassandra and Donna volunteered to do the Spring meeting with a theme of Miniature Cookie Cutters. Save the date: Saturday, April 14, 2012. We then start some early planning for our convention in 2016. We were talking about ideas for themes. Several members volunteered to start looking for hotels. If anyone wants to be part of the committee for convention planning please contact Arlene. We ended the meeting with our traditional raffle with lovely items donated by members, including several from out of state. Proceeds from our raffles go to fund the donations we make to national convention goody bags and our future convention expenses. Elenna won the door prize of a backpack outfitted with picnic supplies. She plans to keep as an emergency kit in her van. After our dinner from Simply Sloppy Joes which was supplemented with the salads, bread and fruit we watched a short DVD recorded from the Food Network about how Foose manufactures their cookie cutters. Again we visited late into the evening.
Sunday morning we had more of the burritos bread and fruit and then packed up for the drive home. June joined the carpool as they stopped in Colorado Springs at the flea market. There were a couple of nice finds there including some ceramic molds and a cast iron mold. I hated to see the fun end.
Hope to see you in December and April,

SPRING MEETING 2011

The Rocky Mountain cutups had their Spring meeting in Westminster, CO on April 2nd. Seventeen members gathered for a fun meeting with a pirate theme. Captain Penny and her crew had cute decorations and programs. Some of the members dressed the part! June even had a parrot! Our meeting started with the traditional social hour and scramble.

For the program, June and Mae Jane shared some of their cookie jars. June also had information that she got from Tupperware and everyone shared cutters from their collections. We were surprised when Cassandra showed examples of the many colors that some of the Tupperware came in. Lunch was a buffet with the centerpiece of a ham. The cookie table was loaded with lots of cookies. During show-n-tell we all had new finds to share. Cassandra won the door prize of a basket full of goodies. Mae Jane won the second door prize of a Keebler cookie jar. Arlene gave Penny a cute elephant cutter to thank her for continuing to be historian. The meeting cutter was a cute pirate made by our own RMCU tinsmith, Elenna Firme. The RMCU membership cutter was also given out. It is a quilt block, Delectable Mountains, made by Julie Dawson of Orchard Canyon. The raffle table was full of wonderful baskets and the meeting ended with the raffle. Everyone had a good time.
