Of course everyone brought cookies to share. We also each brought a cookie cutter gift to exchange. We played a game of CCCC trivia with prizes. Hostess June provided wine and lemonade. Penny's cookies were wonderful little snow globes. Six members enjoyed staying at the lovely house that Lorella and Nick are trying to sell there. Cassandra and Donna stayed at the local RV park with Grandpa and the kids. June drove down with our hosts a couple of days early to help them decorate. Penny and Arlene carpooled with Elenna and enjoyed the drive down the front range.

Penny made a cute banner illustrating all the letters of the alphabet with common household items.

Friday night Nick fired up the grill and we had a wonderful b-b-q with shared brats, steaks and burgers. Lorella and Arlene used her two bread machines to make hot loaves. The rest of the meal was a pot-luck of salads. We finally all retired to our beds after visiting late into the evening.

Saturday morning we enjoyed Penny's breakfast burritos and Elenna's cranberry bread along with sliced fruit.

Of course we had cookies available all day and evening. We started the meeting with our traditional scramble. Arlene gave her presentation, "Can You Spell Cookies" sharing cutters from her collection of alphabet and number cutters. After show and tell we adjourned to go to the downtown "Octoberfest" festival. We liked walking down Main street that had been converted to a street fair with booths and good food to buy for lunch. A favorite booth had homemade pies. After spending a couple of hours and more than a couple of dollars, we went back to the house to restart the meeting.

During the business meeting we decided on a design for our 2012 convention contribution. We decided to meet at June's house in December for a potluck and cookie exchange (to be finalized later but tentatively set for Friday evening, December 9th). Cassandra and Donna volunteered to do the Spring meeting with a theme of Miniature Cookie Cutters. Save the date: Saturday, April 14, 2012. We then start some early planning for our convention in 2016. We were talking about ideas for themes. Several members volunteered to start looking for hotels. If anyone wants to be part of the committee for convention planning please contact Arlene. We ended the meeting with our traditional raffle with lovely items donated by members, including several from out of state. Proceeds from our raffles go to fund the donations we make to national convention goody bags and our future convention expenses. Elenna won the door prize of a backpack outfitted with picnic supplies. She plans to keep as an emergency kit in her van. After our dinner from Simply Sloppy Joes which was supplemented with the salads, bread and fruit we watched a short DVD recorded from the Food Network about how Foose manufactures their cookie cutters. Again we visited late into the evening.

Sunday morning we had more of the burritos bread and fruit and then packed up for the drive home. June joined the carpool as they stopped in Colorado Springs at the flea market. There were a couple of nice finds there including some ceramic molds and a cast iron mold. I hated to see the fun end.

Hope to see you in December and April,

2011 Fall Meeting

The RMCU fall meeting is being planned for the weekend of Sept. 30 - Oct. 2.
Plans are for a sleep-over on Friday night in LaVeta, CO where Lorella has a house. Seventeen members gathered for a fun meeting with a pirate theme. Captain Penny and her crew had cute decorations and programs. Some of the members dressed the part! June even had a parrot! Our meeting started with the traditional social hour and scramble.

For the program, June and Mae Jane shared some of their cookie jars. June also had information that she got from Tupperware and everyone shared cutters from their collections. We were surprised when Cassandra showed examples of the many colors that some of the Tupperware came in. Lunch was a buffet with the centerpiece of a ham. The cookie table was loaded with lots of cookies. During show-n-tell we all had new finds to share. Cassandra won the door prize of a basket full of goodies. Mae Jane won the second door prize of a Keebler cookie jar. Arlene gave Penny a cute elephant cutter to thank her for continuing to be historian. The meeting cutter was a cute pirate made by our own RMCU tinsmith, Elenna Firme. The RMCU membership cutter was also given out. It is a quilt block, Delectable Mountains, made by Julie Dawson of Orchard Canyon. The raffle table was full of wonderful baskets and the meeting ended with the raffle. Everyone had a good time.

Spring Meeting of the Rocky Mountain Cutups

When: Saturday April 2, 2011

Where: Westminster, CO 80234

Theme: Pirates

Time: 9 am - 4 pm

Lunch: Potato and Salad Bar provided by your hostesses

Dress: Pirates' garb and/or Casual

Hostesses: Pirate Captain: Penny, Pirate Band: Jeanne, June and Mae Jane

Bring:

* Your Tupperware cookie cutters to show, esp if unusual

* Extra cookie cutters for the Scramble

(we buy, sell, trade extra cutters between us)

* 3 dozen cookies (+35 recipe copies to share + provide info for those w/allergies)

* Money for the Scramble and Raffle Table

* Show and Tell items

* Raffle Prizes (optional) eg. cookie cutters, cookie jars, cookbooks, aprons - etc.

Please join us! The Theme of the meeting was “The Birth of a Cookie Cutter.”
The table in the breakfast room was full of cute cookies. Mae made cute Reddy Kilowatt cookies. Penny’s cookies looked like fresh peaches. After a social hour and scramble 22 members and guests gathered in the living room and shared their favorite cookie cutter. We were happy to welcome our Texas member, Betty, who came to the meeting with her husband.
Our program speaker was Elenna Firme, our resident tinsmith, who demonstrated how she comes up with the design for a cookie cutter and makes it. It was really interesting to see a snowflake come to life in just a few minutes. She also demonstrated how she would make one of her little gingerbread men. Elenna shared some of her history and how she became a member of the Cookie Cutter Collector’s Club and later a tinsmith. Elenna has been a member of the RMCU since the beginning and is a past president of CCCC. The meeting cutter was passed out and everyone received a cute snowflake with a little cutter for making details in a cookie. Harriett followed up with a demonstration of cutout paper snowflakes. Everyone had the chance to cut their own beautiful snowflake. Then Cassandra and Donna shared memories of their convention trip and had a display of some of the cutters that they got during the scramble and the programs in California.
After a group picture, posed on the steps of Mae’s cute backyard tree/play house, we had a lunch that had been prepared by our hostesses, Mae, Harriett and Joy. Lunch included cheese cut in the shape of snowflakes and a snowman Jell-O mold.
Mae’s husband enlisted the help of Texas visitor, Walter to make some hand-cranked ice cream. For desert we all gathered in the garden for cake and ice cream. The cake was a surprise for Kathy who has just sold her house and is moving to Portland. Members also surprised Kathy with “We will miss you” cards.
Arlene won the door prize of a Lenox snowflake night light. Everyone shared their finds during show-and-tell. New officers were elected during the business meeting. Arlene will continue as RMCU president, Penny is historian, Donna is our new treasurer and Cassandra is our new secretary. Arlene announced her election as CCCC vice president and the members discussed whether or not we would accept the hosting of the convention in 2016. Members were enthusiastic about doing so and Jeanne even shared some ideas for a convention theme. We voted to have Arlene notify the CCCC officers that we will accept doing the convention.
The meeting ended with the raffle of over 20 donated baskets. Everyone enjoyed seeing Mae’s lovely house which was decorated with buffalos (for CU) and cookie cutters. Nine Colorado RMCU members that we know of are currently planning on going to the convention in California. The 2010 membership cutter, The Wedding Vase, was passed out. The cutter design was made by Elenna Firme from suggestions by Kristi. Kristi wrote the story for the cutter insert. It follows the Colorado Native American theme of the Mesa Verde cutter of last year. Elenna also made the teapot shaped meeting cutter.
We always enjoy having show and tell and seeing the treasures other friends have found in their travels and searches. The raffle was a hit as usual with everyone winning at least one of the prizes or baskets. Kathy won the door prize basket which also included a cute catcutter by Elenna. MaeJane and Connie won the Pudsey cutters that Joyce sent for door prizes. Every one had a great time and took home a variety of cookies from the cookie table.

2010 Spring meeting

You are cordially invited to a:

Hanky Panky Tea Party!
Spring Meeting of the Rocky Mountain Cutups

When: Saturday April 3, 2010
Where: Rosanne Thompson's Home Studio
Northglenn, CO
Theme: Hanky Panky Tea Party
Time: 9 am - 4:30 pm
Lunch: Tea Fare Lunch provided by your hostesses
Dress: Casual
Bring:
ο Your favorite vintage hanky (if cookies/food theme, even better!)
ο Extra cookie cutters for the Scramble
(We buy, sell, trade extra cutters between us)
ο 3 dozen cookies (+ 35 recipe copies to
share + provide info for those w/allergies)
ο Money for the Scramble and Raffle Table
ο Show and tell items
ο Raffle Prizes (optional) eg. cookie cutters, cookie jars, cookbooks, aprons, etc.

We will have a fun and informative program on vintage hankys, by professional speaker and storyteller, Katie Dix. Several others couldn’t make the meeting because of recent illnesses or the roads. The theme was “Ice Cream Train”. Hostess, Penny had decorated the conference room with trains from her dad, George’s collection. She had found a selection of cute bags that attendees filled with goodies including two new limited edition cookie cutter sets made by our own tinsmith, Elenna Firme just for the meeting. On the cookie table there were train engine shaped lollipops, molded chocolate candies and cute train and ice cream cone shaped cookies. Members enjoyed the traditional scramble by buying cutters from friends who had extras to sell.

Hostess, Arlene wore a vintage skirt with a train scene boarder print. She did a program about the history of trains and passed out an 8-page list of trains that run in Colorado and engines on display. She passed out flyers from many of the attractions here including several museums. Each member then shared stories about their train travels which ranged from a little train at a carnival to train rides in the United States, Australia, Asia and Europe. Rosanne shared the story of several years of her childhood when she lived in a caboose. Jeanne showed photos and a magazine article of her father’s scale train which runs through the fields of their farm in Ohio. He calls his train the PA & W RR. Penny told of her grandfather who was a railroad worker. Lorella told of a number of trips on trains including one across Australia and Arlene shared her trips on trains across Java, Malaysia and Europe.

Then Arlene shared her database of over 100 train cookie cutters/shapers and told about all the cutters she brought from her collection. Several members also shared some other different train cutters they have.

Lunch was a potluck centered around turkey that Penny had provided. Members brought a wonderful selection of food. After lunch we had a short business meeting where new officers were elected. Arlene is the new president of RMCU and Rosanne is the new secretary/treasurer. Penny remains historian.

During show-and-tell we all were delighted by the finds of our friends. Mae had a wonderful box a friend had made for her which had an “Ice Cream Train” on the lid. Both Arlene and MaeJane shared cutters from their recent trips abroad. Harriet found a lid from fabric softener with a wonderful design that could be used as a cookie stamp/ cutter. Pat was declared “Yard Sale Queen” when she shared her finds of a cache of commercial cutters and her prize of a Formay Rabbit that she got for under $2.00. Pat has been finding gems at the local yard sales of eastern Colorado for years. In fact, she met Elenna at a yard sale and joined our club as a result over 20 years ago! During show and tell, we enjoyed ice cream sundays we had made using ingredients from the cute train that Penny had assembled She had cups of nuts and sprinkles as box cars following the engine she made out of a couple of flower pots with an ice cream cone smoke stack. She also had a selection of flavored syrups. The raffle table was groaning with over 60 donations. Everyone enjoyed picking out their prizes from the various baskets and other items. Kristi won the door prize basket with several new cutters and a cookie jar. Mary Fox of Little Fox Factory also donated 3 cutters for door prizes. We made short order of packaging our donation for the CCCC 2010 convention in California using the cutters made by Elenna, bags by Pat and a card designed by Arlene and Rosemary. You will have to wait till June to see the cute goody-bag item!

Animal Crackers - Spring Meeting 2009

Spring Meeting 2009

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 193px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_9gva4N3wDT8/SdTf1dQGiaI/AAAAAAAAAC8/CwmusCkCl7U/s320/crackerbox.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320123169309624738" />
The Rocky Mountain Cutups is having their Spring meeting in Centennial, Colorado on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 9 - 4. It is also the meeting in which RMCU members receive their exclusive, limited to members only, annual club cutter!

Whether you are new/old members, friends or guests - we are happy to answer any questions. If you would like any more information about attending this meeting please email us at rockymtncutups@gmail.com

Kringle's Confectionary & Cookie Co - Fall Meeting 2008

Twenty-two members and guests met in Littleton, Colorado on October 12, 2008 for the fall meeting of the Rocky Mountain Cut-Ups. We were very happy to welcome Gary and Louise who were visiting from their home in Illinois. They had been members of RMCU when they lived in Canon City. Before the meeting we visited with old friends and had a scramble where we were able to buy cutters from other collectors.
The theme of Kringle's Confectionary & Cookie Co was evident from the time we entered the meeting hall till we left. Julaine gave a series of wonderful programs about candies, cookies and molds. The programs were enhansed by handouts of recipes and information. Meeting cutters made by tinsmith, Elenna Firme were shaped like candy jars and were presented in Christmas stockings. A bonus circle cutter was given by the hostesses. It can be used to cut a hole in any cookie shape so that the cookie can be put onto a Christmas tree.

Lunch was a choice of soups and salad and sandwiches. She told about her experiences in collecting and pointed out a number of cookie cutters for dealers and collectors to watch for. Arlene used Pam Nelson's new Gingerbread Boy book as well as books about Educational Products and old molds during the talk. Eleven Colorado members made their way to Wisconsin by plane, car and truck. It was great to see some of our extended RMCU family there also. Former member, Gary Oldenberg did one of the programs on his German tin cutters. Rosemary Henry from Virginia, did a program about her web site. Shirley Roberts did a program sharing her cookie jar collection. It was amazing to see how many she has. She left the convention with at least 6 more that she won in the raffle. Joyce Moorhouse did a program about her trip to Egypt and entertained us with the tale of how she bought brass cutters. Al almost got into trouble when they temporarily ended up on the raffle table. All of us wanted to put tickets into that jar! Betsy Cukla of Hammersong did an abbreviated version of her workshop that she does for small groups. She showed us how to make rolled out sugar cookies and decorate them. The secret is to use "silpat" sheets and to freeze the frozen, rolled dough. She doesn't distort the unbaked cookies by removing them from the "silpat", they are just baked on it. Kitty Lataine told us about Laura Ingles Wilder. Other programs were about German cutters, a trip to Curacao and using cutters to mold papier mache.
This convention was full of sister acts including Shirley and her sister, Beverley from California and Iowa; Jill and Jennifer from Canada; Kristi and Ruth from Colorado; Rosemary and Kathleen from Virginia; Doni and Diane from California; Verola and her two sisters, Clara and Dottie from Wisconsin who worked the cookie trays; Lana and Pam from Oregon and Texas; a set of twins, Geri and Kathy from Michigan; and Zonnie and Cheri from Minnesota and Wisconsin. What a fun time to vacation at convention with your sister!
California member, Doni Bryan is our new CCCC President; Nevada (moving to Idaho) member, Shirley Marie Coughlin is our new CCCC Secretary-Treasurer; and Lynn Maguire, our Pennsylvania member was elected Vice-President.
RMCU welcomes Connie from Florida and former RMCU member, Wanda, has renewed again. We have Wanda's email this time so we won't loose track of our nomadic friend. Wanda might be able to come to see us this fall on her way between gigs.
The programs were great as usual and the tinsmith room had lots of great cutters to buy. Two scrambles had lots of treasurers to buy. June found a Monogram Minnie Mouse! The Big Rivers group gave out favors at every meeting
We had a rainy day on Thursday but that was OK since we were in programs all day. Friday was beautiful and we had a nice paddle boat ride on the Mississippi that evening. At the banquet on Saturday night many members dressed in costumes from other countries. The drawing for the 214 raffle prizes was at the banquet. Most RMCU members won something at the raffle. Mae won a Seagram's 7 cutter!
Some people took more time on their way home. Ann had plans to visit collectors Nancy in Pennsylvania and Lou in North Carolina before going home to Oregon. June and May Jane were on their way to see Leah in Wisconsin before taking their time coming home. Nick and Lorella were visiting antique stores on their way home. Marty was taking several days at home with her son and daughter-in- law visiting from California. Now it is back to work for many of us to earn money to pay for all the fun we had.

Photos of our RMCU members and friends at the CCCC convention in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in June 2008

Aurora History Museum

Sunday, April 28th
Last Thursday, Kathy and I met Lyn and Connie at the Aurora History museum to see the "Collector's Corner" display in the lobby. Our own June's collection is featured until the end of May. We were delighted by the display. June explained that the director asks Aurora collectors to bring in about 500 items for him to choose from when he designs the display. She was disappointed that he didn't choose her favorite 'Formay Rabbit' to include. Some of the cutters in the display are the 'HRM Dagwood and Blondie' set, cutters from the Pittsburgh convention, coin cutters, a nativity set, a Chanukah set as well as premiums from Heinz and Planters. One that we had never seen was a Playboy Bunny cutter. Arlene put together a flyer about RMCU that is available at the museum desk thanks to Jeanne.
If you are in the metro Denver area, go over to Aurora to see this delightful display thru the end of June.

Photos from Arlene & Lyn of June's display at the Aurora History Museum.

Travel - Spring Meeting 2008

Thirty-one members and guests of Rocky Mountain Cut-Ups met on April 26 in Aurora, Colorado for their Spring meeting. The meeting theme was travel which was very evident in the room decorations of travel posters and airplanes and trains on the tables. Many costumes showed where members had traveled (or wanted to travel). Cookies on the refreshment table also carried out a travel theme. Kathy made a cute one of a running gingerbread boy with his cell phone. The tiny cell phone cookie cutter was one of the items found in the meeting goody bags.
Members also received this year's RMCU membership cutter of a Gingerbread Snow Angel made by resident tinsmith, Elenna.
Meeting hostesses and host did a little cutter related skit about traveling to the convention. Jeannie gave everyone a handout with photos of the cutters posed with some of her Troll collection. One of the raffle table items was a jig-saw puzzle
with a cookie theme. The cookies were made by Pueblo, Colorado bakers Angie Gridley and Katie Weaver from their shop, "The Cookie Ladies".
With a scramble, raffle, show-and-tell, and cookies everyone had a fun-filled, cookie-filled travel good time.

Photos from the Spring meeting, April, 26, 2008, Aurora, CO.

Carousels - Fall Meeting 2007

The fall meeting of the Rocky Mountain Cutups was held held in Sterling Colorado on October 13, 2007. Some members arrived early on Friday afternoon when co-hostesses’ Pat and Sharon took us on a field trip to nearby Mereno. We had special tour of the studios of sculptor, Brad Rhea where we were amazed by the large statues of wood and marble. We then went across the way to the Wisdom Carnival Rides Plant . Pat’s son-in-law gave us a tour of the plant where they both work. He explained that the Wisdom plant makes not only the rides but the means to transport them as well as many other diverse yet related items. Pat’s grandson handed each person on the tour a one-of-a kind, laser-cut metal gingerbread boy figure with ‘CUTUPS’ spelled out on on his chest. Our tour guide created them especially for us. Everyone who was able to go enjoyed the tours.
The meeting on Saturday was held at the at the N.J.C. Tennant Art Gallery in Sterling. Pat, Sharon and Elenna and many of their family members were involved in creating the decorations of balloons, carousels and Ferris wheels as well as many surprises and fun like cotton candy. Pat opened the meeting and explained how carousel was derived from the phrase, “carry-us-all!” Sharon’s son, head of the Chamber of Commerce spoke to the group about the positive impact of tourism on Colorado both from out-of-state visitors and travel of people like us within the state. The revenue generated lowers our taxes. Colorado is the 4th most popular US destination.
President Arlene presided at the business meeting. The minutes from the meeting and the treasurer’s report are included with this newsletter.
Roseanne was voted in as in as new RMCU historian.
Two clowns entertained us with cookie cutter related jokes and stories. They laughed about collecting and sang a “recipe song”
A hot lunch was served (beef dish, potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and cheesecake).
The program on decorating springerle cookies was taped at the Pittsburgh , KS Convention in June 2006 with Lori Longamore. Each RMCU member was given a cookie to decorate using edible ink markers.
We had Show and Tell.
Raffle.
Special “Meeting Cookie Cutter” was distributed to all. An Elenna carousel, ,w/ Little Fox Factory carousel horse limited issue signed, dated.

Photos from our Fall meeting in Sterling, Colorado, October 2007.
